# Where interior design clients come from, and which ones you keep

> Interior design clients usually come from five places: new possessions in your area, Google searches, Instagram, referrals and paid lead platforms. Judge each by its cost per site measurement visit, not per lead. Whatever the source, the designer who replies first and books the visit fastest tends to win the project.

## Five sources, five habits

Each source brings a different kind of client, at a different moment. Each needs its own habit.

- **Possession handovers.** A new society gets its keys and hundreds of owners start looking for a designer in the same few weeks. Fix: Know the handover dates of projects near you, and have a package and a site visit slot ready.
- **Google searches.** Owners search "interior designer near me" and call the first two or three profiles with photos and reviews. Fix: A complete Google Business Profile with real project photos, and every call answered.
- **Instagram.** Project reels bring DMs at night, many from people a year away from possession. Fix: Reply the same night, ask possession date and budget, and book the visit when it is close.
- **Referrals.** A happy client mentions you in the society WhatsApp group. The enquiry arrives warm, but it still needs a fast reply. Fix: Ask past clients for referrals at handover, and call every referred enquiry the same day.
- **Paid lead platforms.** Leads cost money and are often shared with other designers, so the client hears from several firms within the hour. Fix: Call within minutes, or the lead is gone before your team sees it.

## Cost per site visit, by source

Take three months of enquiries. For each source, divide what you spent by the site measurement visits it produced.

- **Paid platform: spend, leads, visits:** ₹30,000, 60, 6
- **Instagram ads: spend, enquiries, visits:** ₹20,000, 40, 5
- **Google profile: spend, calls, visits:** ₹0, 15, 4

That is ₹5,000 a visit from the platform, ₹4,000 from Instagram and nothing but time from Google. The cheapest source is often the one you already have and answer too slowly.

These are example numbers, not figures from any designer or platform. Your enquiry log gives the leads; your diary gives the visits.

## The first hour decides most projects

Every source above ends in the same moment: an owner waiting to hear back. Make that moment fast and the same every time.

- Reply to every call, DM and form within minutes, at any hour you allow
- Ask three things first: possession date, carpet area or BHK, and rough budget
- Book the site measurement visit on the first call when possession is within three months
- Send two or three past projects of the same size, not your whole portfolio
- Put owners whose possession is far off on a light follow-up, once a month
- Note the source on every enquiry, so the cost-per-visit sum stays honest

## Where to put your next rupee

Before spending more on any source, fix the reply time on the sources you already have.

- **More paid platform leads.** Fixes: A steady flow of owners actively looking. Falls short: Shared with other designers, so slow replies waste most of them.
- **Meta ads with project reels.** Fixes: Reaches owners in the societies and pin codes you choose. Falls short: Many enquiries are far from possession. Needs fast replies and a filter.
- **Google Business Profile.** Fixes: Free, and owners who search are close to deciding. Falls short: Slow to build reviews and photos. Missed calls go to the next designer.
- **A referral habit.** Fixes: Warm enquiries that already trust you. Falls short: Slow and uneven, and it depends on finished projects.
- **An AI sales employee.** Fixes: Calls and messages every enquiry from every source within minutes, asks the three questions and books the site visit. Falls short: Does not quote designs or negotiate. ₹50,000 setup, then ₹22,500 a month.

## Questions

### How do I get interior design clients in India?

Work five sources: new possessions near you, a complete Google Business Profile, Instagram project reels, referrals from past clients, and paid leads if the numbers work. Then reply to every enquiry within minutes and book the site visit on the first call.

### Are paid interior design leads worth it?

Only if you can call them within minutes. Paid leads are often sent to several designers, so the first useful call usually wins. Judge them by cost per site visit over a few months, not cost per lead.

### Which questions should I ask a new interior enquiry?

Possession date, carpet area or BHK, rough budget, and which rooms they want done. Those four tell you whether to book a site visit now or follow up later.

### Should I ask clients for Google reviews?

Yes, after handover, from real clients, without offering anything in return. Google's rules do not allow paying for reviews or offering discounts for them.

### What does the AI sales employee cost?

₹50,000 to set up, then ₹22,500 a month. If you only need incoming calls answered, the AI Receptionist is ₹10,000 a month after a ₹30,000 setup, with 1,000 minutes, then ₹9 a minute.
